For this activity, the goal was to learn more and experience a scenario in which we would use prototyping, or more specifically in this case, rapid prototyping, as a method of testing and iterating an idea. In class, we were instructed to watch a pitch video for a product called the "Hot Seat". After watching the pitch, we had to create ideas for a prototype by:
After thinking through each of those topics, we were to create a rapid prototype.
I have used prototypes before in different projects, but for this one, I found myself narrowing things down more into one topic/issue (in this case, my group focused on the portability of the product when considering the design). We created a low-fidelity (sketch) iteration, as well as a model of what the product would roughly look like, just to help us get an idea of what features we need to focus on. Although it isn't a realistic example, we listed some future iteration ideas which could utilize proper heating technologies that are simple enough to be considered a prototype, such as using hot water or heating pads.
If this were a real activity, from where we left off, I would look into what people actually want by doing interviews, regarding whether or not there is actual interest in the product, as well as what would make the product most useful to its users. This could also be done by real testing, giving the product to users in order for them to test it, then possibly another survey to help determine what can be improved on and if it is actually something that should be pursued.
